Scotland was hit by Storm Arwen on Friday the 26th of November 2021 causing significant damage across all of Scotland.
Around 80,000 Scottish homes have been left without power for at least 5 days after the storm. Some homes are said to still be waiting for the power to return. This has left many sheltering in minus Celsius degree weather.
The scariest part of the storm was that it left damage by way of felling tree's. So many trees have fallen across Scotland that it brought the country to a standstill by way of communication and travel. Many homes were blocked in by trees and unable to call for emergency services, those that could, found that emergency services could not get to them due to trees in the road.
The National Trust for Scotland has also reported that trees have fallen in the hundreds at some of their properties. The damage is so bad they are asking people not to visit some areas due to safety issues.
A Local man from Comrie, Scotland ventured out after the storm to help clear away trees and give emergency service and locals access to and from homes in his area.
He said "I've spent days clearing tree's and there is still so many yet to be cleared. I've never seen so many down, some have fallen like domino's."
Many are saying storm Arwen has done more damage than 'The Beast from the East' that hit Scotland back in 2018 and closed many schools and businesses due to extreme wind and snow.
Local councils in Scotland are warning people that there could be further damage in the next coming weeks and to be careful when out walking as many trees have now been structurely compromised. Sadly 3 people lost their lives during the storm due to falling tree's, and many others escaped with injuries or near misses.
Tradesmen have been working around the clock in hazardous conditions to repair homes and power lines and are slowly helping reinstate communication. Some towns have seen military support, like Aberdeen, who have come out to help with the recovery effort in hope to get Scotland back to some normality before Christmas.
