Meet the Tartan Viking

Eric Murdoch The Tartan Viking

Eric Murdoch, also known as the Tartan Viking on social media, is a Scottish tour guide and professional driver for Rabbies (an award winning small group/private tours company).

Murdoch has gained quite the following over the last few years for his Scottish adventures, well versed historic stories, and his quirky warm personality. This self proclaimed "trader rather than raider" of a Viking has been guiding people around Scotland for the past 8 years, from the grisly ghost stories of Old Town Edinburgh, to the Lochs and Castles of the Highlands.

While he's been unable to tour guide as much in person due to the crippling effect of Covid-19 on the travel industry, the Tartan Viking has been showcasing Scotland and its history via the way of online tours through social media and private whiskey tours through his buy me a coffee page at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/TartanViking.

In an article by the Edinburgh Evening News, Murdoch admitted that while being furloughed, like many other tour guides during this time, lockdown pushed him to finally record stories with his own little twist that he'd been putting off. "less walking through fields in a tweed jacket talking about some battle and more fun, humour and the occasional innuendo.”

The Tartan Viking

To add to his very Scottish Viking nature, you may have even spotted the Tartan Viking on your television screen? as he's also a part of the Beautiful Bearded Bastards agency, who are run by a community of supporting artists. Murdoch has appeared in a great number of historic productions; such as 'Outlaw King' the historical drama film about Robert The Bruce, which is apparently where Murdoch got the nickname "Tartan Viking" due to his iconic ginger beard. You may have also spotted him in popular TV series 'Game of Thrones', and the American historical drama film 'Robert The Bruce'.

For his next trick, however, he will be taking over The Scot Box Instagram for 24 hours this Thursday, the 12th of November 2020! Giving viewers an exclusive tour somewhere special in Scotland while also answering any questions or comments you may have during the day.

Make sure you're following both the Tartan Viking and The Scot Box on Instagram to stay in the loop, as Eric may give you a peak into our latest gift box soon to be available in the shop!
